Lower Rogue Watershed
The Lower Rogue Watershed reaches upriver from the mouth at Gold Beach to river mile 55, at the Curry/Josephine County line in SW Oregon. The watershed encompasses all of the tributaries to the Lower Rogue, and the Illinois River below river mile 6.6. The basin is 226,668 acres and lies almost entirely in the Klamath Mountains Physiographic province, an area noted for steep, rugged terrain, narrow valleys, and sharp divides. The topography of the basin reflects a ancient upland that is slowly rising in response to the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
Land use is primarily forestry-related; 75% of the basin is in public ownership. There are no large urban areas, or industrial or agricultural centers. Fishing and recreation are the only substantial sources of income other than forestry. The mission statement of the Lower Rogue Watershed Council reflects our concern for restoring or maintaining a healthy, sustainable, and viable watershed for all users.
Our mission statement: Protecting, enhancing and restoring the natural resources and economic stability of the Lower Rogue Watershed by providing a coordinated, basin-wide approach to resource planning and management.
Our website is under construction. Please contact our coordinator for information on our activities. Thank you for your patience.
